“If it's possible for you, it's possible for me, it's just a matter of how!”

"Taking on a coaching role at StepUP 2002 was enormously rewarding. Not only in respect to the amazing fulfilment that came from seeing all the kids move from emotions of anxiety, negativity and reluctance to a sense of achievement, confidence and empowerment, but also from a personal and business level. It helped reconfirm that the way to get the best out of people and to help them "grow" is not to provide the answers for them but to allow them to discover and question and use their own imagination. As a manager I have often lost sight of this but the experience with StepUP has allowed me to see how much more you can get out of people by giving them the freedom to believe in their own ability to make decisions."

Anthony Ott - Director of Agency
PRD Nationwide, Queensland

From a work perspective it gave me the confidence to go out and do things I hadn’t done before like searching out new projects and putting them in place. What I’m doing now is going to retirement villages and giving talks on hearing and hearing strategies, something I hadn’t done before. stepUP also gave me the confidence to know that what I had to contribute was valuable. Personally, I had a great, great time. It was just amazing to watch the growth of the kids over the two days, I watched them go from being quiet and reserved to being outgoing and absolutely focussed on what they were going to go out and do in school, in investments, in business. One of my teens set out to set up computer spare parts business which was great. Everyone that participated in my team just blossomed, each in their own way. It was all so valuable. It was just great to work with young people and get young people’s perspective on things too. It was a ball. It also had me see that if they, as young as they are, could do it so could I, so I’ve been looking at investment strategies this year, with confidence of doing it instead of being scared about the risks.”

King Hearing Centre

“It was awesome meeting complete strangers, the kids and really enjoying their company and getting to know them so well in such a short time, relating to teenagers, getting to know them over two days was thoroughly enjoyable. Also I had never coached in my life and didn’t know what to expect and what they expected of me … and then when they were asking me ‘how did you do this and how did you do that?’ about my own life, it was great. They were so interested in how I’d done what I’d done to where I was today, which was a great feeling, really nice and that gave me a sense of confidence.”

Sarah Barnett - Function Sales Executive
The Chifley at Lennons

“I became really focussed on the business again, I thought I was already but I got very focussed on my work as a result, there were things in there at stepUP, exercises, points and information in business planning especially that I could apply and adapt to my business on how I handle a couple of things. I got a lot of direction out of it, which is what the kids were getting too. It was great, I was on a high when I finished. I felt I was on a roll, I felt a lot better about myself and my business, what I was doing and how I was doing, it was great and it’s been great since. I just want to be a coach again and work with the kids!”

Dee Burgin - Principal & Director
DeeVision Retail Solutions

“It was just good to take time out to get a different perspective of what’s possible for my business. I saw that it is possible if you want to make it happen. It is possible if you take time and look at what you’re doing and as a result get a new vision. That’s what happened for me there. Personally, I really enjoyed doing something for somebody else, that really was good for me and made me feel better about myself.

I also got a different perspective on youth. Prior I saw a lot of kids not doing what they could be doing, which I thought was just such a waste and I would look at them and think ‘why aren’t you out there getting off your tail to do something’, but I don’t think that anymore. What I see now is that no-one gives them any vision! Without a different view of the world, through entrepreneurs for example, their whole world has to be a pay check, the dole or lotto. Everyone who was up there was an entrepreneur and I’d say that .1% of the population ever gets an understanding on who entrepreneurs are and what they bring to the world ... What they need is an understanding or a vision of what they could be and who they could be. Where I was seeing a bunch of kids out there in the world that were not doing anything with their lives, I suddenly saw a bunch of kids saying ‘oh my God, there’s more to life than I thought and I get to go out and get it’ which was great for them and an excellent shift for me on youth as a whole. It’s up to us as adults to lead them to a new view. StepUP does that.”

StepUp- Thank You! My name is Glen McLauchlan and I was one of the coaches at the StepUp "......." (can't think of a word that adequately describes it) and on behalf of the young 'guys' in my team I would like to convey to you my heart felt thanks for your presentation, enthusiasm and overall contribution. I can not believe anybody could have sat through those two days and not have had their lives changed for the better, even those who chose not to "get into it". Unashamedly I believe I benefited more than any of the younger audience and would personally like to express my gratitude and respect for your efforts and your achievements. It does make a difference and we all need to hear that from time to time. . I hope we meet again sometime so I can thank you personally. Wishing you all the health and happiness.

Glen McLauchlan
